Blog#5

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide. When you drive a car, the engine burns fuel which creates a certain amount of CO2, depending on its fuel consumption and the driving distance. When you buy food and goods, the production of the food and goods emits some quantities of CO2. Considering all of these common factors in our daily lives, we need to be more aware of how our choices will affect the earth. The carbon footprint is a very powerful tool to understand the impact of personal behavior on global warming. I was shocked to see that I emit 14 tons of CO2 just from these activities. I think that if you personally want to contribute to stop global warming, the calculation and constant monitoring of your personal carbon footprint is essential. One area where I will reduce my carbon footprint is in transportation. I will walk or bike to class instead of driving my car. I will also try and carpool more often with my friends. I hope these changes in my daily routine will make an impact on this earth for the better.

  1. Hey, I never really thought about how much are cars pollute the atmosphere. Like obviously I know they do but its still kind of weird to think about because everybody drives, and when your driving you do not really think about it. I did not know that when you buy food and goods that it gives off CO2. That is a really interesting and new fact for me. I completely agree with you that since everyone is informed of how much damage we are doing to the atmosphere that we need to make a change. It really makes me mad that some people do not care about are planet. I feel the same way that you do, that I did not realize how much damage I do to the planet. Also, I really want to make a change to my lifestyle just like you. I really liked your blog and see you in class.

  2. Yes I agree with you by reducing the time you spend along in your car is a very good start because in this days we became so attach to our cars than we forgot the essential meaning of it which is transportation, and is clear that drive alone everywhere is not the only choice we have. Driving I bicycle, car pooling or even public transportation is great.

  4. I thinkv the high carbon footfrint ponit resluts from modern American life. The distance between the commercial area and living area requires people to dreive car everyday. Same time, modern american life allows people to hang out or go around everywhere. It is a symble of advanced life but also causes lots of trouble. But anyway you did a good job!
